Saving Beauty

Bet you didnt expect to see me post soo soon. Well lets hope to make this a regular thing.

So in an effort to better my skills i have entered a contest, although it isnt really a big thing. I basically a workshop with a prize at the end for the best. Anyway, i thought it would be good to document the process, in more ways than one.

My idea based around the theme: Beauty, was simply just a woman in a pose. I did a sketch was were all based on reference (so i just really testng my 2d skills, which need alot of work).

From those poses i liked the look of the 3rd one. Its more complex than the other two and just appealed to me.

Change of Mind

Either way i decided not to go with this idea and instead opted for another subject, one that is not only more ambitious but also more fitting with the theme of the contest.

The reference is from the movie “The Postman Always Rings Twice” (the original 1946 version). I just love this image and i also have an idea for alternate environment than the one pictured, but i think im gonna stick to models first because there is a lot going on there.

The session ends on 29 of December, i will pop in and make a few update posts but i am also recording my process and plan to do a series of narrated timelapses.

See ya soon.

Hey im back…… so what!

Hey guys, well there it is. Im back, after almost half a year. It is still surprising though that people still manage to find their way here.

Anyway, because of the show (cgRoundup) and with my previous setup, it was always hard to do work and subsequentally post about it. But the winds have changed and i now have the means to put what is in my mind into 3d and therefore into this blog.

So, whats first. Well remember that model a few posts down. I was in the process of finishing that off. But recently i thought it would be good for me to enter one of the 3d Jams at cghub.com . After i will finish it off and then start another model along with working on the bee project. I gave Houdini fur a test run with the new comp and i must say i was pleasantly surprised at the speed of manipulation. And that was the main reason the bee project died out, it was just way too slow to work with.

So here is an update of the athena model. Its part of a bigger scene. But that will come later. Right now the model still isn’t finished, but here it is in its current state (you know im saying that because im not happy with it :( ).

Along with closeups of the face (which im also not happy with :( ).

Thank you for the comments in the break, though they were few, they kept me striving to get back on track.

A new cg podcast!

Hello people,

For years i have wanted to be involved in some sort of CG podcast. I and a few others started on that goal a year ago but it kinda fell apart.

But here we are, with the launch of CG Roundup.

CG Roundup is a cg podcast aimed at users and participants of the cg community. We are not looking to gloss over topics, we are looking to please people but we aren’t looking to upset either. We just want to have an honest and frank chat on news stories and topics that are we feel are important or current.

I could write more about this and that, but judge for yourself.

More later

Athena WIP

Hi!

10000+ hits, not bad eh? Not really if your consider that the site has been around for about 15 months which means on average around 20+ hits a day…so. But then again i have created something out of nothing. (Still people get 10,000+ hits a day). I feel like im on a seesaw praising myself then breaking it down :) .

anyway

The last time i posted stuff on anatomy was back in January 2008, which is ridiculous since the site was originally setup to be mainly about modeling.

So here is a project that i started ages ago and never really came back to it. So a week ago i carried on from where i left off.

Not much explanation required. Just alot of observation and study of anatomy. Hands need alot of work along with the feet and face. In fact EVERYTHING needs work…so. Until the next post here is where i am.

responses:

S9: Hey there mate. Totally agree with you. Sculpting allows one to focus more on the shape and form before then converting it into a technically sound model.

Mike: cheers mate.

Patrick: Hey there patrick. Yeah im not doing to bad in Houdini. Its a great package and one with almost infinite depth. Its gonna be useful in the future since i am finishing the first draft of a short film i want to make soon. So check back to see some progress on that. I will post this WIP on NaP too see what you guys think.

Next post

dunno? see ya then. :)

About this blog!

In a nutshell, this is where i update work and try stuff out. Think of it like a thread that never gets bumped to page 2.

There will be modelling, rigging, possibly some pre-viz updates ... basically anything i do related to cg will be posted here.

I dont update this blog as frequently as i would like, but one, the updates i do make are quite lenghtly and are packed full of useless goodness and two, this isn't the only place you can find me making a ripple or two.

and that is over at my podcast www.cgroundup.com
