Texturing, First textured model ever

*yawn*

I should be taking advantage of the break i have at the moment. So like i said here is the update.

So like the title explains this is the first step i have made in character texturing. I made a feeble attempt about 3 years ago and since then its been modelling all the way.

Without making excuses, there are alot of areas that need cleaned up, seams, colouration (thats the english way of spellling it i think) etc, the ear needs to be started let alone finished.

So here it is.

This is the way i went about texturing it:

  • Copied the finaled .ZTL file (finshed sculpting)
  • Once in the tool, bring it to the highest level (which is the highest my current system can afford, 2.5mill…. please dont laugh)
  • Subdivde 1 to 3 more times, with HD Geoemetry
  • Using ZappLink and Poly Painting project views of people onto the model
  • Once the pixels and been picked up and applied to the model, with a blank 4k texture transfer the painted polys to the texture.

I only did the last step when i had 80% of the model covered. I knew the rest of the model would be pretty easy to take care of since i created the UV’s in a very readable fashion, so the rest could be done in photoshop.

And for those of you wondering what the model looks like without the texture, here is a render from Maya (sorry for the forehead area, need to do some tweaking obviously) , i think he has alot of character and there is still the bolts and hair to be added.

“Bolthead” Finaled Base

Hey-oh

Well this is a piece i worked on last year, it is loosely based off a sketch by Andrew Ley. I recorded a part of the base mesh creation of which some of you might have seen, but it need to be re-encoded and new commentary (since the audio quality and lets face it. content was crap, i now have a new mic and a whole bunch of collected thoughts to go along with the videos :-) )

Well i came back to it earlier this year (sculpting) and then re-abandoned it, and now ive come back (texturing). Which will be in the next post.

Done in Wings3d.

Testing and some work…

Hey guys,

so after testing a few things out and customizing the site I’ve just added a bunch of links on the right hand site. That sounds like I didnt put much effort into compiling that list but it really is a decent list of Artists, Forums, Websites etc. Most of these you will probably be familiar with and some might just be a welcome discovery, so please give some of them a look.

Besides that do I actually have a reason to post? well kinda.

As part of my edited opening statement, here is one of my models.

This is Maxi Jazz, the lead frontman from the dance band Faithless. I modelled him a while ago,you might think out of various celebrities why on earth would I model him, well its simple, I thought he had an interesting face.

There are a ton of steps to get this result and in future posts I guess with many of the other models that I will post here you will find out how I created him.

There are quite a few areas that need tweaking but for now its time up. There is a body, but it has yet to be sculpted and when the time comes I will adjust the few areas of the face im not so keen on.

The ubiquitous Hello World!

Hello everyone, well…… I guess this is the point where i can say welcome to the first post on the blog.  I have a few ideas and plans to make this blog somewhat fresh and exciting but chances are it will be like the millions of others, i guess i will do my best.

I will at the few least try to make a new post once a week, and if that’s so, it will be a considerably packed post, but i want to get into the rhythm of making regular little posts, but since life has a habit of getting in the way… blah blah blah excuses excuses…..

I made a blog last year that started off well but i didn’t like the look of the site and it was hard to manage, so hopefully for the new year this will be a better alternative.

Anyway hope everyone had a good holiday period, and look forward to making some posts.

About this blog!

In a nutshell, this is where i update work and try stuff out. Think of it like a thread that never gets bumped to page 2.

There will be modelling, rigging, possibly some pre-viz updates ... basically anything i do related to cg will be posted here.

I dont update this blog as frequently as i would like, but one, the updates i do make are quite lenghtly and are packed full of useless goodness and two, this isn't the only place you can find me making a ripple or two.
